WFAANZ launches automotive window film installer certification
Automotive tinters across Australia and New Zealand will soon be able to get formally certified, with the Window Film Association of Australia and New Zealand (WFAANZ) launching what it describes as an industry-first installer certification program.
The program launches on 4 November 2026 and combines an online workshop with an online exam. It covers the technical knowledge behind professional automotive window film installation, including:
- auto glass and film technologies
- regulations
- solar control and UV
- industry resources and terminology
- calculations
- industry standards
The course is designed to sit alongside hands-on installation experience. It gives installers a stronger understanding of the science, performance and compliance considerations behind the trade.
WFAANZ President Ally Cronan said the program tackles a common misconception about tinting.
“The idea that there’s not much to tinting a vehicle is patently untrue,” Ms Cronan said. “Understanding auto glass and film and how they perform together, the regulations and many factors that affect the finished job is what separates a knowledgeable professional from someone who simply hangs film.
“Practical experience is essential, but knowledge matters too. This certification gives installers a way to build that knowledge, back up their experience and demonstrate their commitment to quality and standards.”

Open to new and experienced installers
The program is open to established installers, people new to the industry and others working in the sector. WFAANZ says that by providing reliable, accurate and consistent technical information, it aims to help installers build their expertise while bringing greater consistency to industry practice.
Ms Cronan said certification also gives businesses a way to stand out.
“Customers want to know they’re dealing with someone who knows their stuff. Certification gives businesses another way to demonstrate professionalism, build trust and show they take their trade seriously.
“Learning shouldn’t stop once you’ve mastered the installation. Well-informed installers, better business practices and greater consistency can only be good for the industry and its customers.”
