30,000 people, 250 exhibitors, and a crowd that blurs trade and hobby
Melbourne wraps up the 4×4 show season. The National 4×4 Outdoors Show closed out its 2026 calendar in Melbourne recently, drawing roughly 30,000 people through the Showgrounds gates across three days and 250 exhibitors onto the floor.
What stood out most wasn’t the size of the show, it was who was actually there. Workshop owners and enthusiasts featured heavily among the visitor base, a reminder that the line between tradesperson and 4×4 enthusiast is blurrier than most people think.
Plenty of the industry’s best mechanics are off road enthusiasts first and tradespeople second, or at least the two feed each other closely enough that the distinction barely matters. That crossover is exactly the crowd this show pulls in and it goes some way to explaining why events like this keep growing the way they do.
Few places offer the same combination, hands on time with the latest gear, direct access to the people who built it and live demonstrations of that gear being pushed through real scenarios, all in one afternoon.
For anyone working on suspension and brakes specifically, the show floor was a useful reminder of how much engineering sits behind the builds on display. Lift kits, upgraded dampers, bigger brake packages, most of the rigs had been reworked from the ground up long before they saw any dirt. Seeing that gear, fitted to vehicles built by people who use them in earnest, says more about what actually holds up out there than a spec sheet ever could.
New for this year was the Content Creator Showcase, giving some of the country’s better known 4×4 creators a spot to display their own builds. The Show N Shine competition also introduced a new Show Pony category, recognising presentation and detail rather than raw capability, a fitting addition for builds that are as much about craftsmanship as function.
Melbourne was the final stop for the National 4×4 Outdoors Show this year. The tour picks up again in Brisbane in March 2027, before returning to Sydney and Melbourne later in the year.
