Kumho’s new Victorian warehouse holds 50,000 more tyres than the last one

Kumho Tyre Australia has opened a new distribution centre in Melbourne’s south east, near Pakenham, to keep pace with growing demand across the Victorian market.

The facility holds more than 180,000 tyres, a capacity increase of over 60 per cent on the company’s Dandenong South site, which held 130,000 tyres across 10,000 square metres. The new centre spans more than 16,000 square metres and replaces the Dandenong South facility after 12 years of operation.

Victorian State Manager Alan Knight said the investment reflects a shifting vehicle market, including growth in EV, hybrid and Chinese brand sales, which has pushed Kumho to carry a wider and deeper range of stock. “The demand for tyres to address the changing vehicle market, including the arrival of the latest crop of EVs and new Chinese brands, has meant we need to carry more products, more often,” Knight said. “With the ever increasing range of vehicles and tyre patterns now available, Kumho will now be able to stock a higher percentage of EV compatible tyres.”

The site’s location near the Princes Motorway is designed to speed distribution to dealers across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria, with higher ceilings and more loading docks built in to move stock faster than the previous facility allowed.

The Victorian upgrade follows a run of network expansion for Kumho nationally. The company relocated its head office and opened a larger New South Wales distribution centre at Marsden Park in Sydney’s north west in 2022, followed by a Queensland facility at Willawong in Brisbane’s south west and an 8,500 square metre Perth centre in Western Australia. Kumho has flagged plans to expand its South Australian footprint during 2027.
