Bridgestone named Formula E tyre supplier for the GEN4 era

Bridgestone will supply every car on the Formula E grid from the 2026/27 season, debuting two new Potenza tyres for the GEN4 race car.

Bridgestone will be the sole tyre supplier for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship from the 2026/27 season, which starts in December and runs 21 races through to July 2027.

The deal coincides with the arrival of the GEN4 car, which brings permanent active all-wheel drive, a quoted top speed of 335 km/h and peak power of 600kW. Bridgestone says those figures place greater demands on tyres than any previous Formula E car.

Two tyres have been developed for the new car. The Potenza GEN4 is designed for grip, durability over a full race distance and adaptability to varied track and weather conditions, while the Potenza GEN4 for Typhoon Tyre is a heavy wet tyre built for racing in standing water.

Bridgestone Executive Officer and CPO Global Motorsports Hiroshi Imai said the wet tyre was a key part of the program.

“In particular, the newly introduced POTENZA GEN4 for TYPHOON TYRE represents a symbolic evolution for the GEN4 era, enabling drivers to confidently take on even wet conditions.”

Bridgestone says the GEN4 tyres carry a 65 percent allocation of recycled and renewable materials, including carbon black from end-of-life tyre pyrolysis oil and silica derived from rice husks. The figure is calculated using a mass balance approach under ISCC PLUS certification, meaning certified materials are allocated to the product on paper rather than physically traced into each tyre. Production also uses an allocation of 100 percent renewable energy.

Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds welcomed the new partner.

“We are delighted to welcome Bridgestone to Formula E as our sole tyre supplier for the 2026/27 Season and beyond.”

Bridgestone will also be title sponsor of four race weekends, in Mexico City in January, Berlin in May, Shanghai in July and the season final in Tokyo later that month.
